As a rule I don’t read much romcom, but earlier this year my interest was piqued by a book called Reaching for the Stars, and when I read the opening scene on the author’s website, (an all too human celebrity chef has a hangover from hell!) I was completely hooked.
Then two weeks later I met, Janice Horton, the hugely successful indie author who also happens to be one of the Love a Happy Ending crew. And so I have no hesitation in promoting her latest book which has a seasonal theme and a strong Scottish flavour (yum, yum!) called How Do you Voodoo. The novella format (isn’t it great how e-books have cleared the way for things like this?) should be ideal for a quickish read on our weekend away, which brings me to the next bit.
As part of the celebrations I get to cast a spell!
Now I could invoke world peace or a constant supply of chocolate to all mankind, but I think there’s a more pressing need. You see, this weekend away involves dancing, which Mr B and I have been learning for two years now, but despite being able to keep the beat (more or less) and learn the steps (very very slowly) my style is, er, a little clodhopping, to the extent that I am frequently compared to quantities of root vegetable – you know the ones I mean.
And so I would like a spell that will put a smile on the face of my long-suffering partner, stun my dancing teacher and fill everyone else with SHOCK and AWE as I trip the light fantastic – important words are LIGHT and FANTASTIC – around the floor, instead of the kind of performance that would make Ann Widdecombe look dainty.

And just so you don’t think I’m greedy, I’m happy to have this happen for just a couple of nights. When the clock strikes midnight on Sunday I shall cast aside my glass slipper and go back to normal life – (well maybe some of that sparkle will stay with me!)
Can it be done? Some magic is definitley required! While I wait to see if my wish will be granted, here’s a bit more about spellmistress Janice.
Janice Horton lives in Scotland and writes contemporary romance with humour. Her novels ‘Bagpipes & Bullshot’ and ‘Reaching for the Stars’ are both Amazon Kindle bestsellers. Her latest title ‘How Do You Voodoo?’ is a romantic and humorous novella for Halloween and out now!

Wow – tall order for anyone … if it works let me know. I’m secretly hoping my own spell will work too, but I have to say it would take a small miracle ha! ha! Nice one Ali.
