Having visited the Somerset town of Frome this summer, I was keen to support the annual literary festival which is entirely run by volunteers and always has a great line-up, including, this year, one of my favourite authors, historical novelist Andrew Miller talking about his latest novel The Land in Winter, which was a very insightful session.
I also decided to support the prize-giving for the short story awards and was delighted to win the Local Author Prize for my short story Nice Poem, Shame about the Place. A nice reward for a total of four hours driving over two days! Here I am pictured with other prize-winners and the festival judges who included Claire Fuller, a favourite of mine since her early Swimming Lessons not to mention her much lauded Unsettled Ground.
(If we look frazzled, yes it was very hot!)

Since then the eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed a new cover for The Absent Heart. That’s because I entered it into the international Book Blogger of the Year Award and made it to the semi-finals. No monetary prize but I’ll get a mini book promotion in November and can use the badge, which I must say is a nice addition.

The interior is of course unchanged!
Don’t forget it’s usually cheaper from Linen Press than well-known online stores.
