Leaf Writers’ Magazine is now on Issue 3 and since I’m a contributor and a subscriber I have ended up with two copies. So if you’ve been thinking of subscribing but aren’t sure, or just fancy something different to read, leave a comment on this post by Sunday night. If there’s a queue I’ll put the names in a hat.
I expect writers will know of Leaf Books and their many competitions, but since Issue 1 (a tad tall and thin), the magazine has been getting chunkier and increasing the range of its content. This time there’s an interview with Andrew Motion, an article on Travel Writing by John Harrison and two different takes on writing synopses from The Literary Consultancy and novelist Emma Darwin. All this is alongside lots of other writing tips and the submissions of competition winners (yes, that’s me!) The only thing I find a little de trop is that winners are asked to give a commentary of how their story/memoir/flash came into being. I felt very slef-conscious about this and kept mine deliberately short. I do like a few lines of bio about a fellow writer, but generally I want to see the product rather than the process, and judge it as any reader would without having the ‘back story’.
But don’t let that put you off!
If you would like a spanking new copy of Leaf Magazine Issue 3. Please leave your name below by 10 pm Sunday.
Ooh yes please.

Hi Kate and Sylvie
I really did use a hat and close my eyes and Sylvie is the winner!
Bad luck Kate, but do check out the Leaf Books website for more info on the magazine. And better luck next time!
