The woolly heart on the sidebar is no random choice, but part of a Work in Progress of a different kind for me, and so here’s the almost-completed pram blanket for the daughter of a friend whose first baby is due on Feb 14th.
For someone who has been a bit of a handicrafts refusenik, I’m quite pleased with my effort, which has also reminded me of the of the pleasure of producing a physical object that might be of practical use (compared, of course, to wrestling in the ethereal universe of words ). And even if the finished article doesn’t get used much by the forthcoming baby, it has already kept me warm on many a chilly evening. Yes, I could get hooked on the whole knitting thing, and talking of hooks, might even branch out into crochet.
Best of all, when something like this is done it’s done. No pitch or synopsis required.

The rug looks really lovely, Ali. Lucky baby. Becoming a grandma almost three years ago got me into knitting and sewing (not natural occupations!) and now I find it very satisfying. I also find that having to sit still but keep my hands busy frees the mind to wander.
Ah that is such a sweet idea. I wish I had the time and talant to make such personalised things. I would love to kit my own house out with canvas’ and patchworks that we have made as a family. Just need to learn how to do it. Well done looks lovely xx
Oh well done, looks lovely. Am sure mother will be thrilled and baby snug. Can I put an order in now?
It looks great! Ican feel Grandma, Aunt Lizbeth, Granny and Mum beaming down on you!
Don’t know it’s quite their style. Could never manage one of those really fine shawls like we had!
