Or maybe I shoud have chosen that ‘tide in the affairs of man’ quotation because it’s proving a mega month for Bristol Women Writers. First of all there was the launch of Jean Burnett’s Who Needs Mr Darcy (and a party on Saturday at Toppings of Bath – who could ask for more!) and now Shirley Wright (whom you met here) has won second prize in the very well-supported Wells Literary Festival Poetry Competition. Shirley has won several presitgious prizes and I’ve had the pleasure of hearing lots of her poetry but the prize-winning poem Reference Library is new to me and I can’t wait to hear it.Meanwhile Nina Milton, writer and teacher who blogs here has been signed by Thornberry for a teenage novel. More great news! And did I mention me?
Official launch date of Kettle is Tuesday 23rd and I hope some of you will join me as I guest with Carol Wyer on her Facing Fifty with Humour blog. I’ve also been busy making a Facebook page where you can ‘like’ the book and join the guest list for Tuesday. And with my typesetting troubles in the past, I’m now looking forward to holding my baby in my hands!
Meanwhile I have to say thank you to all the friends – new and old- who are giving me houseroom in the weeks to come (in no particular order):
local writer and fellow Thornberrian Kit Domino,
US fantasy writer Stephanie Keyes
Atlanta book blogger Peter Hobbs
writer of Scottish fiction with humour and heart Janice Horton
medium and writer from Tetbury Richard Holmes
debuting with Bloomsbury, living in France Claire King
short story specialist, teacher and editor Nick Perring
Nina and Kitchen Table Writers in West Wales
historical fantasy writer in Canada Melanie Robertson King
lately moved to Lincoln, rock-star romance writer Nicky Wells
romantic novelist of Sussex Sheryl Browne
If you woud like to join this rather amazing list, do let me know, but either way, thank you for your company too.
First stop Tuesday!
Carol Wyer’s blog Facing Fifty with Humour
As ever, thanks for keeping me company.
Good Luck, Ali! 🙂 xx
